RUGBY À XIII. LE CENTRE DE FORMATION VIENT DE NAÎTRE. SES PENSIONNAIRES JOUERONT À TERME EN ÉLITE. C’EST UN SIGNE QUE LE TO GRANDIT ET QU’IL COMPTE S’AFFIRMER SUR LA SCÈNE EUROPÉENNE.
Le Toulouse Olympique mise sur ses jeunes
C’est un tournant pour le rugby à XIII toulousain. Le TO entre de plain-pied dans l’ère du professionnalisme. Le centre de formation, lancé au mois d’août dernier, sortira dans quelques mois ses premiers bébés. Treize jeunes, âgés de 18 à 22 ans. Ils prendront à terme la relève en équipe I. « Ça s’inscrit dans la logique sportive et économique du club, relève Carlos Zalduendo, président du Toulouse Olympique XIII. Une politique de formation est indispensable à son développement. »
PROJET DE SUPER LEAGUE
Le XIII suit ainsi la ligne tracée par d’autres sports avant lui, comme le football ou le rugby. « Mais notre modèle de professionnalisation est très différent, corrige Marie-Laure Goguery, responsable pédagogique du centre. Nous n’avons pas la même économie, ni la même médiatisation. Nous avançons pas à pas, étape par étape. »
Les responsables du centre ont décidé de s’appuyer sur ce qui fait la force du XIII et du TO : une proximité entre toutes les composantes du club, un esprit qui soude l’ensemble du club autour d’un objectif commun. « Chez nous, tout le monde fréquente tout le monde, dévoile Sébastien Bouche, directeur sportif. Les joueurs de la une font des interventions auprès des jeunes. Il y a une très grande mixité. Il faut réussir à conserver cet esprit rugby tout en allant vers le professionnalisme. »
En créant un centre de formation, le club s’est lancé dans une aventure dont il espère recueillir rapidement les fruits. Trois jeunes évoluent déjà ponctuellement en élite; les autres font briller l’équipe espoirs. Et, dans quelques mois, le TO pourrait intégrer la Super League… « On veut privilégier les jeunes d’ici, du quartier, de la ville, de la région, et jouer en Super League avec un maximum de Français, note Carlos Zalduendo. Mais on ne va pas négliger un recrutement de joueurs de haut niveau, car les jeunes doivent être accompagnés. »
« 13 MECS DIFFÉRENTS »
Le recrutement a ainsi été ciblé. Les jeunes du centre ont été choisis en fonction de nombreux critères, dont le projet pédagogique, mais aussi du système de jeu de l’équipe élite, des postes dont l’effectif senior était dépourvu… « C’est avec le head coach que le recrutement a été fait », souligne le président toulousain. C’est tout le club qui s’unit autour d’un projet. « Gérer 13 garçons, c’est gérer 13 parcours de vie différents », remarque Marie-Laure Goguery. Et peut-être, bientôt, 13 carrières pro différentes.
